    Security Clearances (SECLAR)

    All personnel serving aboard Federation Starships and Stations will be issued security clearance level to express the level of trust placed with the individual and granting that individual access to data classified at that level, provided the individual has a need to know.

    Below are a listing of the various SECLAR levels, the type of information they typically protect, and the types of individuals who usually have the specified level of clearance. Note, these are only typical examples, and are viewed as a guideline rather than a rule.

    SECLAR Data Protected Usually Held By
    1 Information that is considered unclassified and releasable to the general public. All Personnel - Officer, enlisted and civilian - who work for Starfleet.
    2 Data that is unclassified, but is generally restricted for official use by personnel in pursuit of their official duties. All Personnel - officer, enlisted and civilian - who work for Starfleet.
    3 Used for information that is to be distributed solely to Starfleet personnel. All Starfleet Personnel, officer and enlisted. Most Enlisted personnel have this access.
    4 Designates data that is considered confidential, and could cause noticeable harm to the Federation if released. Granted to personnel - Officer, enlisted and civilian - who are working on a specific project. Only allows access to data specifically relating to the assigned task.
    5 Designates data that is considered confidential, and could cause noticeable harm to the Federation if released. Awarded solely to Starfleet Officers and Enlisted (typically NCOs). Most junior officers have this level of access.
    6 Indicates information that is considered secret and could cause serious harm to the Federation if released. Granted to personnel - Officer, enlisted and civilian - who are working on a specific project. Only allows access to data specifically relating to the assigned task.
    7 Indicates information that is considered secret and could cause serious harm to the Federation if released. Awarded solely to Starfleet Officers and Enlisted (typically NCOs). Most senior officers have this level of access.
    8 Assigned to data that is considered top secret and could cause grave harm to the Federation if released. Granted to personnel - officer, enlisted and civilian - who are working on a specific project. Only allows access to data specifically relating to the assigned task. Most Commanding Officers and First Officers have this level of access.
    9 Assigned to data that is considered top secret and could cause grave harm to the Federation if released. Awarded solely to Starfleet Officers and Enlisted (typically NCOs). Commanding Officers and First Officers have this access on a need to know basis.
    10 Indicates information classified as Eyes Only, it is safeguarded at the highest levels. Access to this information is restricted to the Admiralty and the Federation Council.
